Total Solar Eclipse

There is no physical explanation for why the apparent size of the Moon is the same size as the apparent size of the Sun. If you haven't seen a total solar eclipse in person, they are quite the sight to see. I strongly suggest making an effort to see one of these in your lifetime. It's my view that God arranged for our moon to be in orbit at just the right distance so we could experience these awesome events.

There is one particular aspect of these events that is notable. That's the diamond ring effect. It occurs twice for every total solar eclipse. Once as the moon first eclipses the sun. And then again when the moon is moving away from the sun. Here's an artist's depiction of the events.

This effect may be seen for a few seconds just before or after the totality when only a tiny fragment of the solar disc is visible. The solar corona is visible as a green halo around the solar disc. It is a region of low density and temperature of about 1 million Kelvin. The diamond ring phenomena occurs just before totality and just after totality. It is my view that God set our Moon in orbit at just the right distance so that these diamond ring events would occur. They symbolize the marriage of us, the Church, to Him. He proposes to us every time one of these occurs.
